Originating in the Mediterranean, lavender has been used for thousands of years. It has many wonderful properties and has a long history of use to boost appetite and mood, as well as to relieve gastrointestinal problems and anxiety.
Today people use lavender as a dietary supplement for anxiety, depression, intestinal problems and pain. Some also apply the essential oil to the skin for hair loss, pain and improving emotional health. Others inhale lavender vapour to help them sleep, reduce congestion, reduce pain and agitation related to dementia.
Some hospitals have lavender aroma diffusers in certain areas and find that medical staff and patients seem to be less stressed and more relaxed.
Lavendell is a small lavender farm located 6km out of Katikati in the Bay of Plenty, with a fine view of the eastern side of the Kaimai Ranges. We grow Grosso, Impress Purple and Pacific Blue lavenders for your fragrant pleasure and offer a range of lavender essential oils and beautiful handcrafted lavender products.
During the summer harvest, we distill the flowers on site to extract the essential oil and produce lavender water. Other products are made throughout the year, using the oil and rubbed dried lavender. These include our ever-popular lavender-scented soap, eye masks and wheat bags, among others.
